![]() | As stated in the constitution (see Membership), it is hoped that there will be 2 events per year. Details will be published on this page as and when they are available. On "Black Pilgrimages" we visit places associated with actual ghost stories, the lives of their authors, or which provide inspiration for the creative mind. Just as in the classic, antiquarian ghost stories, churches, cathedrals, manor houses, and other ancient and historic buildings feature prominently in the list of places visited. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
RECENT EVENTS Recent events include: . the 2011 AGM and Black Pilgrimage was held in Bury St Edmunds and proved to be a great success with a visit to Great Livermere in excellent weather being the highlight of the weekend. .in January 2011 we enjoyed a post-Christmas recovery weekend at the White Hart Royal, Moreton-in-Marsh and visited L.T.C. Rolt's house in Stanley Pontlarge, Great Tew and the Rollright Stones. . the 2010 Black Pilgrimage (and AGM) was based at The Green Dragon in Hereford in May and intrepid companions explored M. R. James's western haunts. . for 2009, the Black Pilgrimage went to Newcastle-upon-Tyne during the weekend of 14-16th August 2009 (view photos); the 2009 AGM was held in Boston, Lincolnshire, with the highlight of the weekend being a trip to Aswarby Park, the inspiration for 'Lost Hearts' by M. R. UPCOMING 2011 Events: A return visit to York in August 2012 Events: Following the successful Cotswold winter weekend we may try a similar event in Oundle and visit Peterborough to commemorate the centenary of E. G. Swain's Stoneground Ghost Tales and see L. P. Hartley's old home. The main event of the year will be Cambridge based (probably during the summer vacation so we can use college accommodation) and we will explore the plethora of Jamesian connections in and around that noble city. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
